Improved moisture resistance worktops 

Moores Improved Moisture Resistance worktops are designed specifically for the social housing sector. They are manufactured from coreboard complying with BS EN 312: Part 5 (1997) Type P3 i.e. wood chipboard that has major improvements in moisture resistance and increases in mechanical performance over chipboard intended for general use. Originally developed for flooring, P3 is the best moisture resistance coreboard available.

Worktop swelling and delamination (which often means that the worktop must be replaced) is caused by moisture ingress as a result of:

• accidental or deliberate damage to the worktop
• unsealed or poorly sealed cut-outs for pipes, sinks or scribing.

The photographs shown here clearly how the swelling is minimised with the IMPROVED MOISTURE RESISTANCE worktop.

Comparative tests were designed to reproduce a situation of long term exposure to excessive moisture. These tests were then used to monitor the performance of a non-British Standard worktop (left) versus a BS EN 213 Type P3 worktop.
