Ergonomic Kitchens

Moores Furniture Group are the market leaders when it comes to supplying kitchens to the social housing market, a position maintained by the introduction of many successful product innovations over the years. Moores have always been at the forefront in identifying and satisfying individuals needs within the social housing market.

The new ‘Ergonomic Range’ is our latest innovation. The range has been developed over many months, working in conjunction with Occupational Therapists and through extensive research with both Clients, who specialise in housing the elderly, and with the residents themselves. We have developed a range of products designed to meet the needs of the fastest growing market segment within the social housing market, the elderly segment.

The design and development of the Ergonomic range is complete and the product is ready to order now. Please read on to find out how and why this range can improve the lives of the growing number of elderly residents.

Through our research we identified five key areas to focus on in order to create an improved ergonomic kitchen for the elderly.

Mobility

This is about how the end user moves around their kitchen and how mobile they are. Should an oven really be so low and is the hob at the best height for stirring a pan?

Reach

These are the limitations of the user in terms of reaching for items in high places, for instance at the back of cupboards. Most kitchens contain storage areas which are so inaccessible to certain users that they become useless.

Lifting

This is about tackling the problems many end users have with lifting heavy items (especially hot ones such as boiling pans). Also daily tasks such as filling a kettle which can be very difficult for people with arthritis.

Safety

Here we looked at trying to minimise some of the most common hazards in the kitchen. Most people at some time have banged their head on the door of an open wall unit, but this is even more likely if the user has poor eyesight.

Light

Good lighting in a kitchen is vital considering the multitude of, often dangerous, tasks being carried out. Eliminating dark corners and cupboards also improves hygiene and makes daily tasks easier.

Designed to be the perfect kitchen for your customers.

The Ergonomic range is designed to work with the standard Moores High Performance 2 units. This means as little or as much of the range can be used to meet the residents needs. This enables budgets to be met and ensures the provision of sufficient storage, while achieving maximum impact, even in the smallest of rooms.

The ergonomic products do not dictate the look of the kitchen, which can be designed as contemporary or traditional as desired.

A growing facility used by many clients is our installation service. We have a
division that can remove existing furniture and install a new kitchen including joinery, plumbing, tiling and decoration.

Additionally, the ergonomic range has also been designed with the client in mind. The majority of the range has been tested to BS6222: Part 2:1997 Level ‘H’, and bearing the prestigious Kitemark with the additional accreditation of being awarded the FIRA Gold Award enabling the range to meet the exacting standards expected with our marketplace.
